Search Engine Optimization is the ultimate tool for creating traffic to your web site, though advertisements also help in doing the job. From a certain perspective, the preferential treatment that certain sites get would seem quite paradoxical. The best-written article on the web, on any given subject, would be completely ignored, if it were not tailored by proper Search Engine Optimization. At the same time, a badly done article on the same subject would be in the top of the list if it were molded to satisfy SEO requirements. The surfers actually become losers here by not being able to access a scholarly article.
Nobody has the time or patience to click on the thousands of hyperlinks a search engine would return in answer to their query, till they find the right article on a subject or the right web site for a product. So, most people give up the search, if they fail to find in the first ten or twenty hyperlinks, what they are searching for. In short, however dynamic a site is, or however well written an article is, it will fail to attract attention if it is not properly fashioned to suit the Search Engine Optimization requirements.
This SEO requirement becomes mandatory because of the way in which web pages are selected and Search Engine Ranking is done. Search engines use software known as robots, crawlers, spiders, etc. for visiting and indexing web pages. These crawler-based programs visit the web sites at fixed intervals and add matter to their collection. Or web site owners can register the URL of their site with any of the search engines. These too will be added to the search engines web page collection after a while.
It is these spiders and crawlers, which eventually decide the Search Engine Ranking of the web page. These programs are blind to things like graphics and animation. They do react to text matter but as of now they are not able to verify the content and decide the quality of the material contained therein. They are well trained to respond to text descriptions contained within certain tags, and also to text placed at specific locations of the web pages. These will be the keywords of the page using which the site owners do Search Engine Optimization.
